Woodbridge Town Pastors

WOODBRIDGE

Woodbridge is a small market town with a steep history. It is situated on the river Deben and has a main street with numerous independant shops and places to eat and drink. Woodbridge has 2 main parks, numerous public open spaces and a skate park. The pastors mainly patrol the town center area but can also be seen along the riverside and also on their recently donated bicycles (our thanks to County Councillor Page).

Woodbridge does not have any nightclubs, which makes Woodbridge Town Pastors slightly different to the other Town Pastor schemes. Woodbridge does however have a high number of licensed premises with opening hours ranging till 1am. Woodbridge Town Pastors began in April 2009 and the town center areas where the pastors patrolled initially saw a significant drop in recorded crime. The pastors in Woodbridge are now an integral part of the town on a Friday night with people of all ages regularly coming up to speak to them.

The Woodbridge Town Pastors scheme is a churches together project, which bring all the local churches together out onto the streets of Woodbridge working to serve our community. The project has been very successful not only with those who have over indulged in the night time economy but the teams also work very closely with the younger members of the community, many of whom are vulnerable and in need of a regular positive presence. The town pastors in Woodbridge also work special events such as the Woodbridge Regatta, The National Hot Rods Championships and other significant evenings during the year. The Woodbridge Town Pastors also recieved the prestigious Potter Cup from Woodbridge Town Council this year, read here for more information.
